| Gene Smith is running for a two year Marietta Borough Council term on the Republican ticket. He has lived in Marietta for over 30 years. His family was reared here and the children graduated from Donegal High School. |
| Gene is a retired state policeman and is a United States Air Force veteran. He holds a certification in Homicide Investigation from the FBI as well as leadership certification from the Pennsylvania State Police. Currently he is pursuing a Masters degree in Public Administration. He is educated in computer programming and was a speaker and recruiter while with the state police. Gene is also a PIAA basketball official. |
| Gene's career experiences are rich and varied. After graduation from Columbia High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon discharge he was a patrol officer (part-time) with the Marietta Borough Police Department. |
| While serving with the Pennsylvania State Police, in addition to his regular duties, he served as security for such national figures as President George Bush, Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger and General Collin Powell. |
| With the state police Gene served as a Patrol Unit Supervisor and a crime Unit Supervisor. His work has involved him in coordination with the FBI, other Federal Agencies, local, out-of-state, and foreign police departments as well as Operation White Line, a drug interdiction program. |
