| At the August 12,1997 borough
council meeting, Stephen M. Bailey, the Marietta
Borough Emergency Management Coordinator, received a plaque stating
that he has completed all the requirements to be certified as an advanced
municipal emergency management coordinator from the state of Pennsylvania.
Presenting the plaque to Steve was Randall S. Gockley, the Lancaster County Emergency Management Director. Randy stated that the requirements for advanced certification included two courses from the county, two courses from the state, and several home study courses from the federal government. The time involved is over one hundred hours of study, as well as the applicant had to be an active coordinator for a period of three years, and Steve has surpassed these requirements many times over. Mayor Overlander commented that the Borough commended Steve for volunteering his time, and that during the flood of Jan.1996 Steve logged over 120 hours on duty. A resident of Marietta for over thirty years, Steve has given over twenty-five years of voluntary service to the Borough emergency services. Steve and his wife, Nancy, reside on West Market Street, where they raised two daughters, Annette S. Goodman of Elizabethtown, and Sonja J. at home who is a senior this year at the Philadelphia College of Bible. Steve is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician and holds credits from the Delaware State Fire School and the National Fire Academy. Steve has prepared a presentation called "What To Do" in case of severe storm, flood, or other natural disaster and is available to groups and service organizations at no charge. Steve is also preparing an Emergency
Services Newsletter that will be posted monthly on this web site.
