"Conflict of Interest" ? |
| It seems very strange to me that 2 of Marietta Borough's Council Members, including the Borough Council President, are at the same time, active Police Officers employed by the Susquehanna Regional Police Department which enforce the laws and ordinances that govern Marietta Borough. Some of these ordinance laws and fines are suggested, approved and voted for by Marietta Borough Council. This to me is definitely a "Conflict of Interest". |
| The Marietta Borough Council also approve funds and contracts providing services to the community including the financial obligation for Police Protection for Marietta Borough. One of these Police Officers actually voted to form the "Susquehanna Regional Police Department" that then employed him after his vote of approval. To me this also is definitely a "Conflict of Interest" |

| These same 2 Policeman are running again for Marietta Borough Council seat in this Tuesday's primary election. Are they trying to serve the community or are they trying to have "Complete Power" over the people? |
| I am not saying that these are not good policemen, because I believe they are. But should policemen also have a part in making and financing the laws that they enforce? |
| Policeman use to have the title of "Peace Officers", but that has been changed to the title of "Police Officers". |
| If they want to serve their community why don't they continue being good police officers and wait until they retire to serve on Marietta Borough Council? By that time they will be less biased and hopefully more understanding of the needs of the people of Marietta Borough. Also having both jobs makes their effectiveness in each job "divided". |
| Is Marietta Borough becoming a "Police State" against the Constitution? |
| The "PA State Ethics Commission - Restricted Activities" states: "No public official or public employee shall engage in conduct that constitutes a 'Conflict of Interest'." |
| The "Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania" Article 1 - Declaration of Rights" - Political Powers Section 2. states: |
| "All power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority and instituted for their peace, safety and happiness. For the advancement of these ends they have at all times an inalienable and indefeasible right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think proper." |

| Well, Marietta Borough voters, Tuesday is Primary Election Day. I hope you will all vote to keep our Beautiful Borough FREE for "enjoying life and liberty" that our forefathers fought and died for. |
