|
| Lancaster County's oldest community chorus is celebrating its 37th year with several performances during the Christmas season. |
|
|
| The Marietta Community Chorus will present "Let All Heaven and Nature Sing" by Randy Vader and Jay Rouse as its annual Christmas cantata at the Marietta Presbyterian Church, 133 W. Market St., at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12th. |
|
|
| Leonard Smith will direct the chorus with Sylvia Robertson serving as accompanist. |
|
|
| Soloists for the cantana will be Mary Ann Gladfelter, soprano and Charles Zimmerman, tenor.
The narrations will be Donald Kugle and Mary Jane McDowell.
Sylvia and Craig Robertson, on piano and violin, will play selections during the Prelude and Offeratory. |
|
|
| The musical was also presented to the residents of St. Annes's Home, Columbia, during the month of December. |
|
|
| The group formed in August 1962 as the Marietta Sesquicentennial Chorus to celebrate the borough's 150th anniversary.
During the opening ceremonies, the group sang patriotic and sacred music. |
|
|
| The choir decided to continue as the Marietta Community Chorus and performed its first Christmas cantata in December 1962.
Since then, the chorus has presented cantatas annually at Christmas and Easter. |
|
|
| All contributions made to the chorus during performances are used to purchase music and offset expenses.
In addition, the group presents a $50 award annually to a graduating Donegal High School student pursuing a career in music. |
