|
| Lancaster County's oldest community chorus is celebrating its 38th year with several performances during the Christmas season. |
|
|
| The Marietta Community Chorus will present "Good News of Great Joy" by Bill and Robin Wolaver as its annual Christmas cantata at the Marietta Zion Evangelical Luthernan Church, 1290 River Road, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10th. |
|
|
| Leonard Smith will direct the chorus with Brenda Keener serving as accompanist. |
|
|
| Soloists for the cantana will be Margaret Landis, soprano and Richard Hoffman, bass.
The narrations will be Donald Kugle and Karen Sullivan.
The Chorus will offer the musical selections "Salvation Is Created" and "Do You Hear What I Hear" during the Prelude and Offeratory. |
|
|
| The cantata was also presented to the residents of Heatherbank Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Columbia, and Longwood Manor, Maytown, during the last few weeks. |
|
|
| The group formed in August 1962 as the Marietta Sesquicentennial Chorus to celebrate the borough's 150th anniversary.
During the opening ceremonies, the group sang patriotic and sacred music. |
|
|
| The choir decided to continue as the Marietta Community Chorus and performed its first Christmas cantata in December 1962.
Since then, the chorus has presented cantatas annually at Christmas and Easter. |
|
|
| All contributions made to the chorus during performances are used to purchase music and offset expenses.
In addition, the group presents a $50 award annually to a graduating Donegal High School student pursuing a career in music. |
